Atrial delayed enhancement is associated with the severity of diastolic dysfunction in cardiac amyloidosis

چکیده
Background Interstitial deposition of amyloid fibrils in the heart causes thickening of atrial and ventricular walls. Although the presence of abnormal late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) in ventricular myocardium is well described, the significance of atrial LGE is less clear. The aim of this study is to describe the prevalence of atrial LGE in cardiac amyloidosis and to investigate potential associations with disease severity.

Left ventricular and atrial function in systemic light chains amyloidosis: an echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance comparison
Background Cardiac involvement in systemic light-chain amyloidosis (AL) is characterized by slightly decreased systolic left ventricular function (LV) function and typically a diastolic dysfunction including left atrial (LA) enlargement. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is often performed in AL to accurately assess chambers size and function. We aimed to compare features of LV systolic and dias...
متن کاملCardiac Amyloidosis Determines the Prognosis of Systemic Amyloidosis; Roles and Responsibilities of Cardiologist
Cardiac amyloidosis is a prognostically critical condition, since it is a frequent cause of death in patients with systemic amyloidosis. Lee et al. reported, for the first time, describing systemic amyloidosis in Korea from the perspective of cardiologists. In this paper, the authors enrolled 129 systemic amyloidosis patients retrospectively from 1999 to 2011. They showed that cardiac involve w...
متن کاملTypical cardiac magnetic resonance imaging findings of cardiac amyloidosis.
We report the case of a 62-year-old man who presented with shortness of breath, lower extremity edema and clinical signs of congestive heart failure. Transthoracic echocardiography demonstrated concentric left ventricular hypertrophy with severe diastolic dysfunction and biatrial enlargement. After aggressive diuresis and clinical improvement, a cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) examinat...
متن کاملNon-invasive evaluation of the myocardial substrate of cardiac amyloidosis by gadolinium cardiac magnetic resonance.
OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence and distribution of gadolinium (Gd) enhancement at cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging in patients with cardiac amyloidosis (CA) and to look for associations with clinical, morphological, and functional features. PATIENTS AND DESIGN 21 patients with definitely diagnosed CA (nine with immunoglobulin light chain amyloidosis and 12 transthyretin relat...
متن کاملIntracardiac thrombosis and anticoagulation therapy in cardiac amyloidosis.
BACKGROUND Primary amyloidosis has a poor prognosis as a result of frequent cardiac involvement. We recently reported a high prevalence of intracardiac thrombus in cardiac amyloid patients at autopsy. However, neither the prevalence nor the effect of anticoagulation on intracardiac thrombus has been evaluated antemortem. METHODS AND RESULTS We studied all transthoracic and transesophageal ech...
